OUR MOON

In a world growing more and more divided it is easy to forget that we are all living on this planet together as one large global family. Wherever you are in the world, we can all look up and see our Moon. It unites us. It's something we all share and this connection can help foster a real sense of community and common purpose.

Illumination = 86.2%, Exposure = 0.60 Seconds, Phase = Waxing Gibbous, Distance = 251,965 miles, Source = Los Angeles, July 4, 2017

Moondance is centered around an evolving collection of photography with each image expressing a unique imagined orbit of our Moon. Images are each captured organically, with a handheld digital camera, in single exposures of only a few seconds.

Illumination = 7.5%, Exposure = 1 Second, Phase = Waxing Crescent, Distance = 237,305 miles, Source = Kauai, Hawaii December 13, 2015

The collection explores the boundaries between the familiar and the unfamiliar, blurring the line between reality and fantasy. At the root of each image is a unique moon illumination with its real phase data. Derived from this real reference is an interpretive composition of dynamic movement, motivated by themes of physics, symmetry and aesthetics. The simplicity of the subject and the stark black and white palette reveals a surprising amount of complexity.

The ongoing series is also an effort to raise awareness about our Moon and its role in the future of humanity. It's been fifty years since the first Apollo missions and we have finally arrived at the precipice of manned space exploration.

“As the space narrative evolves,
so must our imagination”

Moondance no.3

Our nearest neighbor, at about a quarter million miles away, is taking center stage. The last decade has proven to be ground-breaking with pioneers such as SpaceX and NASA accelerating their space programs, achieving new milestones and leading a new space revolution.

Moondance no.4

Illumination = 16.7%, Exposure = 1 Second, Phase = Waning Crescent, Distance = 225,921 miles, Source = Los Angeles, October 24, 2019

And in the center of this revolution is our Moon, a planned outpost and launching pad. As the space narrative evolves, so must our imagination.
