Our Moon and its future

Moondance

Moondance no.2

Moondance is an innovative photography series which asks us to reimagine our Moon through its inherent spacetime relationship with our planet. Each photograph was exposed in under five seconds and tells a unique story of an imagined orbit.

As the space narrative evolves,
so must our imagination.

My background in philosophy and psychology has informed the development of the series, as I have always been interested in the complexities of light and the ways in which we perceive our spatial relationships with objects. These relationships are both amplified and simplified at night, as black consumes space and specific points of light dominate our view. Moondance explores the boundaries between the familiar and the unfamiliar in an effort to shift our viewpoint from a static representation of our Moon towards a subjective, dynamic representation.

The ongoing series is also an effort to raise awareness about our Moon and its role in the future of humanity. It's been fifty years since the first Apollo missions and we have finally arrived at the precipice of manned space exploration. Our nearest neighbor, at about a quarter million miles away, is taking center stage.

The last decade has proven to be ground-breaking with pioneers such as SpaceX and NASA accelerating their space programs, achieving new milestones and leading a new space revolution. And in the center of this revolution is our Moon, a planned outpost and launching pad. Given its pivotal role in the current revolution in space exploration, I believe that our Moon is under-represented in contemporary art. As the space narrative evolves, so must our imagination.

raising Awareness

Moondance is an effort to raise awareness about our Moon and its role in the future of humanity. Since debuting in 2019, pieces from the ‘Moondance’ series have been jury selected for 18 exhibitions across the country. Each of these exhibitions is an opportunity to increase awareness of our nearest neighbor.
